Karina D. Rivera

I’m Karina, a Licensed Professional Counselor with over a decade of experience in the mental health field. I specialize in trauma, relationships and intimacy, attachment, and compulsive sexual behavior.

My style as a therapist is engaged, direct, and collaborative. I’m not interested in simply helping you become better at tolerating patterns that continue to hurt you. I want to understand what is underneath them—where they came from, what purpose they once served, and why they continue to show up even when you know they are no longer working.

I’m also not a therapist who will simply sit back and listen. I’ll ask questions, point out patterns, offer perspective, and challenge you when there is something important worth looking at. I believe meaningful therapy requires both compassion and accountability—a space where you can feel understood without avoiding the things that may need to change.

A significant part of my professional experience includes working at Gentle Path, where I worked in a specialized residential setting with men struggling with sex addiction, intimacy, relationships, shame, trauma, and the consequences of compulsive sexual behaviors. That experience shaped my ability to have direct conversations about subjects that are often difficult to say out loud—and to approach those conversations without judgment while still emphasizing honesty, responsibility, and meaningful change.
